Sprouts is an efficient way to produce individualized student-created text for the beginning reader. A variety of topics is included in each pack and the text pattern varies to provide real reading work. Ideal for English learners! Use the Spanish and English packs together for bilingual instruction.
How Does Sprouts Work?
Step #1: Select appropriate titles (8-page booklets) for your students by matching their known words to vocabulary in the story. Each booklet comes with matching word and picture stickers.
Step #2: These booklets are filled with high frequency sight words and other common low-level vocabulary that become the anchors to guide the child through the text. Sentence frames and sentence starters model what’s expected of students. Students complete the text by:
- using the provided word stickers (word bank) and/or picture stickers (teachers can use as visual clues when working with students)
- writing in their own words and/or drawing their own pictures
Step #3: After students complete the booklet they can practice basic vocabulary within their completed text.
The materials in Pack 1 begin at the lowest reading level.
The materials in Pack 4 are at the highest reading level.
