Empire State English Language Arts

Empire State English Language Arts is a series of targeted practice books developed especially for New York State ELA test-takers.

 

Each lesson in the Empire State ELA provides instruction for a specific Performance Indicator or Reading Literacy Competency.

The scaffolded lesson format gradually releases responsibility to the student:

• Part 1: Introduction to the Skill
  This part identifies the reading or writing skill for the lesson and explains what it is and how students will use it.

• Part 2: Guided Practice
  Students will get more than just practice here; they'll get help. Each multiple-choice and short-response question is followed by a shaded box in which the correct answer is given along with an explanation of why it is correct.

• Part 3: Independent Practice
  Students will read passages and answer multiple-choice and short-response questions without any help or hints.
