Building Basic Reading Skills promotes the real-world literacy skills today's students need. Teachers will appreciate the incremental development of essential reading skills in four strands:
Main Idea & Details
Helps students distinguish main idea and details in sentences, summaries, titles, pictures, fiction, and poetry
Inference
Students learn to draw inferences from text and pictures, predict outcomes, and draw conclusions
Sequence
Students recognize story sequence using time and picture clues, construction of time lines, and more.
Cause & Effect
Students develop an understanding of causal relationships through exercises in selecting causes, matching causes with effect, completing cause-effect statements, and analyzing multiple causes and effects.
Graphic organizers, such as webs, time charts, Venn diagrams, cause-and-effect charts, and process diagrams help students penetrate text.
Teacher's Guides give intervention guidelines.
