New York State ELA

The New York State ELA (English Language Arts) series is directly aligned to the NYS Performance Indicators and Literacy Competencies. These grade-specific books give students instruction and practice for skills and testing formats found on the New York State ELA Test.

The grade 2 book prepares students for the grade 3 ELA test. Lessons are written at a second-grade level and are aligned to the grade 3 standards.

Each standard-specific lesson includes three parts:

1. Introduction to the Skill
Students develop an understanding of the topic with a brief explanation of the skill being taught, and examples and clues for support.

2. Guided Practice
Students learn how to examine answer choices as they decide on their answers.

3. Independent Practice (Test Yourself)
Put their knowledge to the test. Question formats include multiple-choice, short-response, and extended-response.

Books also include editing and proofreading exercises.
