Continental Press publishes educational materials for grades K–12, specializing in reading, mathematics, and test preparation materials. We welcome manuscripts that have been classroom-tested and that fit specific educational purposes.
Seedling Submissions
Continental Press’s Seedling product line focuses on fiction and nonfiction leveled readers and other materials that support early literacy in pre-kindergarten through second grade. Familiarity with Reading Recovery, guided reading, and other reading intervention programs will give you a sense of the kinds of materials we need for Seedling products.
We accept manuscripts for the emergent reader using natural language and supportive text.
Submissions should include:
- an 8-, 12-, or 16-page format, including the title page. No other format is reviewed.
- minimum length of 25 words; maximum length of 300 words.
- fiction manuscripts with a well-developed plot, including a beginning, middle, and an end. Nonfiction manuscripts should include accurate facts and details and should be presented in language appropriate for the student to read independently.
- sentences that are complete and grammatically correct.
Procedures:
- Manuscripts must be submitted as hard copy by conventional mail only.
- Manuscripts must be in typed form with your name, phone number, and page number on each page.
- All submissions must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope of appropriate size with sufficient postage, if you would like your manuscript returned.
Please do not submit:
- manuscripts in rhyme.
- full-length picture books.
- poetry books, chapter books, or religious books.
- queries, manuscript summaries, or confirmation postcards.
- e-mailed or faxed submissions or submissions on disc.
- originals of your work. We are not responsible for lost submissions.

Seedling materials that are not accepted for publication will be returned to the author within six months. We regret that a personalized response is often not possible due to the large quantity of submissions we receive.
